Mobile Suit Gundam (Universal Century) — Timeline18 events
Year One of the Universal Century — Mass Migration to Space Colonies Begins
The Earth Federation initiates mass migration to space colonies at Lagrange points in response to overpopulation and resource depletion. The Universal Century calendar is established with this year as Year One. The Laplace orbital station, where the inaugural ceremony is held, is destroyed in a terrorist bombing, killing Prime Minister Ricardo Marcenas — an incident later known as the Laplace Incident.
Zeon Zum Deikun Propounds Contolism (Cosmo Aristotelianism)
Zeon Zum Deikun, leader of Side 3, publicly articulates Contolism — the philosophy that Spacenoids, having adapted to space, represent a distinct civilization deserving independence from the Earth Federation. This ideology becomes the intellectual foundation of the independence movement.
Death of Zeon Zum Deikun and the Zabi Family's Rise to Power
Zeon Zum Deikun collapses and dies while delivering a parliamentary speech on independence. Degwin Sodo Zabi, formerly a close aide, consolidates power by purging Deikun loyalists, converting Side 3 from a republic to a monarchy, and declaring himself Sovereign of the newly named Principality of Zeon.
Outbreak of the One Year War — the Week-Long War and Operation British
On January 3, U.C.0079, the Principality of Zeon declares war on the Earth Federation, igniting the One Year War. During the ensuing Week-Long War (January 3–10), mobile suits see large-scale combat for the first time. Zeon executes Operation British — dropping a colony onto Earth — destroying Sydney and several other locations and killing hundreds of millions, the greatest single catastrophe in human history.
Battle of Loum — Char Aznable's Distinguished Combat
Federation and Zeon forces clash in the Loum sector. Zeon's mobile suit superiority devastates the Federation fleet and captures numerous senior commanders including Supreme Commander Revil. Char Aznable singlehandedly destroys five Federation vessels, earning the nickname 'Red Comet.' The Federation withdraws its headquarters to the underground base Jaburo.
Amuro Ray's First Sortie in the RX-78-2 Gundam at Side 7
At Side 7 colony, civilian teenager Amuro Ray impulsively boards the prototype RX-78-2 Gundam and destroys a Zeon Zaku reconnaissance unit. The Federation assault carrier White Base retrieves the Gundam and escapes with surviving civilians and new recruits. Amuro remains its pilot from this point forward.
Operation Odessa — Federation Expels Zeon from Earth
The Earth Federation launches a major offensive against Zeon's primary ground base at the Odessa mining facility in Eastern Europe. Zeon's Earth commander M'Quve attempts to launch a nuclear missile upon defeat but fails. With most Zeon ground forces destroyed or retreating, the One Year War's main theater shifts to space.
Battle of Solomon
The Earth Federation assaults the Zeon space fortress Solomon using the new Solar System weapon. Zeon commander Dozle Zabi leads the defense but falls in battle as Solomon is taken. The Federation renames it Conpeito Island, setting the stage for the final battle.
Battle of A Baoa Qu — End of the One Year War
Federation forces storm Zeon's final fortress A Baoa Qu under Operation Star One. Gihren Zabi is assassinated by his sister Kycilia, who is then killed by Char Aznable. On January 1, U.C.0080, the newly formed Zeon Republic signs the Granada Treaty with the Federation, formally ending the One Year War.
Delaz Conflict — Operation Stardust and the Second Colony Drop
Zeon remnant pilot Anavel Gato steals the nuclear-armed prototype Gundam GP02A and attacks the Federation fleet review with a nuclear warhead. Operation Stardust then sees a colony dropped onto North America's agricultural heartland on November 13, causing catastrophic food supply damage. The debacle leads directly to the formation of the Titans.
Formation of the Titans
In the aftermath of the Delaz Conflict, Federation Brigadier General Jamitov Hymem establishes the Titans, an elite special force tasked with eliminating Zeon remnants. The Titans' hardline Earth supremacist ideology gradually transforms them into an instrument of oppression against Spacenoids, sowing the seeds of the Gryps Conflict.
Thirty-Bunch Incident — Titans' Poison Gas Massacre
Titans forces deploy poison gas to suppress anti-Federation protests at Colony 30 (Thirty-Bunch), killing approximately 15 million residents. This atrocity directly triggers the formation of the AEUG (Anti Earth Union Group) and galvanizes opposition to the Titans throughout space colonies.
Gryps Conflict — AEUG vs. Titans vs. Axis Zeon
The AEUG and the Titans engage in the Universal Century's first intra-Federation civil war. After AEUG seizes Gundam Mk-II in March U.C.0087, Axis Zeon joins as a third faction. The conflict ends in February U.C.0088 with the Titans' destruction at the Battle of Gryps, though both sides are left severely weakened.
First Neo Zeon War (Haman War)
Immediately after the Gryps Conflict, Haman Karn renames Axis 'Neo Zeon' and wages war against the Federation and surviving AEUG forces. After approximately one year of conflict, Haman is defeated and killed by Judau Ashta on January 17, U.C.0089, ending the First Neo Zeon War.
Second Neo Zeon War (Char's Rebellion) — the Axis Drop
Char Aznable leads a new Neo Zeon force, attempting to drop the asteroid Axis onto Earth to force humanity into space and catalyze Newtypes' emergence. Amuro Ray's ν Gundam resonates with the Psycoframe and, amplified by the will of many pilots, pushes Axis away. Both Amuro and Char disappear at the battle's end. The conflict concludes March 12.
Laplace Incident — The Opening of Laplace's Box
The Vist Foundation, wielding enormous influence over the Earth Federation, attempts to leverage 'Laplace's Box' — the original Universal Century Charter containing a suppressed clause guaranteeing Newtype rights — as a bargaining chip. Neo Zeon remnants (the Sleeves) under Full Frontal intervene. Banagher Links, piloting the Unicorn Gundam, unravels the truth, and the full Charter is finally broadcast, collapsing the Vist Foundation's political control.
Cosmo Babylonia Founding War — Crossbone Vanguard Invades Frontier Side
The Crossbone Vanguard, armed faction of the Buch Concern advocating Cosmo Aristocratism (Noblesse Oblige-based Spacenoid autonomy), seizes Frontier Side colonies and declares the founding of Cosmo Babylonia. Overwhelmed Federation forces falter as Seabook Arno and Cecily Fairchild resist using the F91 Gundam in localized combat.
Zanscare War — Rise and Fall of the Zanscare Empire
The Zanscare Empire, emerging from Side 2, launches an invasion of Earth while a weakened Federation fails to mount adequate resistance. Civilian resistance organization League Militaire, led by Uso Ewin piloting the Victory Gundam, fights back. On June 23, the decisive battle over the Angel Halo device results in Kagachi's death and the collapse of the Zanscare Empire, ending the war.
