The Galactic Federation Is Founded; the Universal Calendar Begins
In A.D. 2801, humanity's expansion into the galaxy culminates in the founding of the Galactic Federation. This year is designated Universal Century 1, the origin point from which all in-universe chronology is counted.
Rudolf von Goldenbaum Establishes the Galactic Empire
After seizing dictatorial power, Rudolf von Goldenbaum dissolves the Galactic Federation and founds the autocratic Galactic Empire, becoming its first emperor. He designates this year as Imperial Year 1 and abolishes the Universal Calendar within imperial territory. The Goldenbaum Dynasty would endure for nearly five hundred years.
Arle Heinessen Leads Republicans Out of the Empire; the Free Planets Alliance Is Founded
After a republican group escaped imperial territory under Arle Heinessen in Imperial Year 164, they complete a long voyage through space and in Universal Century 527 establish the Free Planets Alliance. They revive the Universal Calendar and become the galaxy's main democratic counterweight to the Empire.
Reinhard von Müsel (Age 7) Enters the Imperial Military Academy
At the age of seven, Reinhard von Müsel enters the imperial military academy, driven by outrage that his beloved sister Annerose has been taken into the emperor's harem. There he meets Siegfried Kircheis, who becomes his lifelong closest friend.
Battle of Astarte: Yang Wen-li Rescues the Alliance Fleet
Reinhard's imperial fleet of twenty thousand ships defeats the Alliance's three fleets individually at Astarte, inflicting over 1.5 million Alliance casualties while suffering minimal losses. Yang Wen-li, commanding the remnants of the Second Fleet, engineers an escape from encirclement and prevents total annihilation.
Yang Wen-li Captures Iserlohn Fortress by Stratagem
Commanding the newly formed Thirteenth Fleet, Yang Wen-li avoids a frontal assault and instead captures Iserlohn Fortress by infiltrating it in disguise and seizing control from within. Yang is promoted to Rear Admiral for this achievement.
Alliance Invasion Fails; Alliance Forces Devastated at Amritsar
The Free Planets Alliance launches a massive invasion of imperial territory with thirty million troops, but Reinhard's scorched-earth strategy cuts their supply lines and exhausts the army. At the final Battle of Amritsar, the Alliance suffers over twenty million missing or dead. Only Yang's Thirteenth Fleet successfully breaks through the encirclement and retreats.
Lipstadt War: Reinhard Crushes the Old Nobility Alliance and Seizes Imperial Power
After Emperor Friedrich IV's death, a civil war erupts between the old nobility alliance and Reinhard's faction. Reinhard exploits his strategic advantage to crush the aristocratic coalition and seize control of the Empire. During the conflict, Kircheis sacrifices himself to protect Reinhard from an assassin's blade.
Fezzan Occupied; Battle of Vermillion — Yang Corners Reinhard but Is Forced to Cease Fire
Reinhard's forces swiftly occupy the neutral state of Fezzan, allowing imperial troops to invade alliance territory through routes bypassing Iserlohn. At the climactic Battle of Vermillion, Yang Wen-li corners Reinhard's flagship, but the Alliance government orders a ceasefire, forcing Yang to surrender the victory he had all but secured.
Reinhard, Age 23, Founds the Lohengramm Dynasty and Is Crowned Emperor
At the age of twenty-three, Reinhard von Lohengramm receives the imperial throne by abdication from the Goldenbaum Dynasty, founds the new Lohengramm Dynasty, and is crowned Emperor Reinhard I. This year becomes the first year of the New Imperial Calendar, ending nearly five hundred years of Goldenbaum rule.
Yang Wen-li Is Killed by Earth Cult Terrorists at Age 33
While en route to peace negotiations with Reinhard, Yang Wen-li is ambushed by Earth Cult terrorists and fatally wounded, dying at the age of thirty-three. Reinhard grieves the loss of his greatest strategic rival, and the absence of the hero known as 'the Magician' casts a long shadow over galactic history.
Marshal Reuenthal Leads a Revolt and Dies
Marshal Oskar von Reuenthal is driven to revolt by intrigue and misunderstanding. He is defeated by Mittermeyer's imperial forces at the Second Battle of Rantemario and, while retreating, is mortally wounded by a subordinate's treachery. He dies entrusting his child to his lifelong friend Mittermeyer.
Emperor Reinhard I Dies of Incurable Disease at Age 25
On 26 July of New Imperial Year 3, Reinhard von Lohengramm dies at the age of twenty-five from an incurable disease. After barely more than two years on the throne, the death of the man who unified the galaxy marks the close of the galaxy's long era of turmoil. His wife Hilda serves as regent and steers the empire into its future.
