Lyza Departs for the Abyss's Depths; Riko Is Left at the Belchero Orphanage
The legendary White Whistle Lyza undertakes a Last Dive toward the Abyss's deepest layers shortly after Riko's birth. With Riko's father already dead, Riko is placed in the Belchero Orphanage under an orphan's guise to protect her from kidnapping.
Riko Discovers Reg in the First Layer
While exploring the First Layer, twelve-year-old Red Whistle Riko discovers an unconscious robot boy named Reg, who has no memories. Brought back to the orphanage, Reg learns about Orth and the Abyss, while documents among Lyza's relics hint at a figure that may be Reg himself.
Riko and Reg Begin Their Descent into the Abyss
Upon receiving a signal said to originate from the deepest layer — and a message reading 'I'll be waiting at the bottom of the Abyss' — Riko escapes from Orth with Reg and begins the descent. They pass through the Second Layer, the Forest of Temptation, heading deeper.
Arrival at Ozen's Seeker Camp; Reg's Past and Training
At the Seeker Camp on the border of the Second and Third Layers, Riko and Reg meet the White Whistle Ozen. Ozen reveals that Riko was once dead and was revived by the 'life-resonating stone' that Lyza found. Reg is put through ten days of wilderness training to build his combat strength.
