The Tatami Galaxy
A parallel-world campus story in which a third-year student repeatedly regrets the club he chose at matriculation. Episodes 1–9, including the nested alternatives of episodes 6–8, are alternate versions of the same two years, not consecutive events. Episodes 10–11 gather their traces into the Tatami Galaxy and converge on a choice in the present.

The protagonist chooses a path toward a rose-colored campus life
At matriculation, each version of the protagonist chooses among clubs and ways of living. The following two years branch according to that choice, so the branch events listed next do not occur before or after one another.

In the tennis branch, he and Ozu become the Black Cupids
The protagonist loses his place in the Cupid tennis club and meets Ozu, who is similarly excluded. They become infamous Black Cupids who sabotage romances, and by his third spring he regrets the choice.

In the film branch, he makes an exposé of Jogasaki
In the Misogi film club, the protagonist is used to glorify Jogasaki. He and Ozu make an exposé of Jogasaki's private life, but Ozu drives the project in an unexpected direction, leaving him to regret his club choice.

Ozu derails his bid to win a bicycle race
Unable to keep up with the hard-driving Soleil cycling club, the protagonist avoids Ozu and works to buy a high-performance bicycle. Just before the race, the bicycle police remove it, with Ozu's shadow behind the setback.

The protagonist becomes Master Higuchi's disciple and joins fellow disciple Ozu in a prank war against Jogasaki. He searches for a legendary scrubbing brush with junior disciple Akashi, yet again drifts away from a rose-colored campus life.

The protagonist chooses the female-heavy Honwaka softball club but cannot fit into its excessive warmth. Months pass as he tries to rise through the club to meet a black-haired maiden, while Ozu advances another scheme.

In a world where he avoids committing by joining three clubs, the protagonist grows close to Hanuki through an English conversation club. He must choose between her invitation for drinks and appointments with other women at the same time.

In another outcome of the same three-club choice, the hero-show club leads the protagonist to guard Kaori, who is not human. After living with her, he again faces three conflicting appointments on the day her owner returns.

In another branch of the three-club world, the protagonist belongs to the SEA reading club and corresponds with a woman whose name he finds in Ozu's borrowed book. After exaggerating himself in letters, her request to meet collides with two other appointments.

He is drawn from the bottom of Lucky Cat into Ozu's scheme
The protagonist joins the secret society Lucky Cat Chinese Restaurant and, after repeated failures, is reduced to personal errands for manager Aijima. Ozu stages a coup within the organization while pursuing another plan.

His tatami-room doctrine traps him in endless rooms
Having chosen no club at matriculation, the protagonist spends two years believing his four-and-a-half-tatami room contains everything he needs. One day every door and window leads to another identical room, trapping him inside.

He accepts the other possibilities and chooses his present
Seeing traces of the other branches in the endless rooms, the protagonist realizes the opportunities he thought lost had always been nearby. He escapes the Tatami Galaxy, accepts Ozu as his friend, and chooses to face his promise to Akashi.
